The fiscal year 2024 Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) Competitive Grant Process is open for applications until Friday, November 17, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. MST.

This funding opportunity seeks to promote collaborative, science-based restoration of priority forest landscapes by providing grants to state and territorial forestry agencies, units of local government, federally recognized Tribes, nonprofit organizations, Alaska native corporations, and universities.

A few examples of eligible projects include watershed health/wildlife habitat improvements, community tree planting projects in communities with a population of less than 50,000, wildfire fuels management projects, as well as the survey, prioritization, and treatment to control invasive plants in a high-priority landscape. Priority is given to projects that promote cross-boundary collaboration, coordinate with or are in proximity to other complementary landscape-scale projects, leverage funding from multiple entities, or that show direct benefits and/or intentional engagement of disadvantaged communities.

Tribal applicants may apply by coordinating with state forestry entities in this western process, or apply through the separate national Tribal application process available for the LSR grant. The western LSR process also includes a subcompetition for Pacific Island applicants. More information on that subcompetition is available within the LSR western guidance on the LSR webpage

To get a better sense of competitive applications, view proposals from previous years here. To learn more about the LSR program, please read through the Western Guidance on the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition’s (WFLC) LSR webpage and contact your state/island/territory forestry agency for any state-specific process information.

Questions can also be directed to Leena Visnak, Competitive Grants Manager, lvisnak@westernforesters.org. Recordings of the applicant informational webinar can also be found on WFLC’s LSR webpage, as well as other useful resources.
